Formerly called “international distance,” the name was changed prior to the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney when triathlon debuted in the Olympic program. Its distances are standardized, with a 1.5K (0.93-mile) swim, a 40K (24.8-mile) bike and a 10K (6.2-mile) run.
